Going for Gold's educational content

Full details of curriculum coverage are given in the teacher's notes for each activity.

Activity 1 is aimed at levels 4 and 5 at KS3.

Students need to be able to convert from pounds to kilograms, calculate percentages, round to 1 dp or the nearest integer, as required, and to use formulae correctly.

The formulae are given in the hints, and when deciding on the best choice of menu, students should be encouraged to adopt a systematic approach to recording the various options.

Activity 2 is aimed at levels 4 and 5 at KS3.

This is a relatively straightforward activity which requires students to label a pie chart correctly and then calculate percentages, round to the nearest 0.5 and divide numbers into blocks of 0.5 (eg 6.5 is 13 blocks of 0.5). Reminders of the percentage calculations for each of the training exercises is given in the hints.

Activity 3 is aimed at level s 4, 5 and 6 at KS3.

There are four stages in this activity. The first requires students to use an nth term formula and round the answer to the nearest 0.5. The second stage requires students to calculate distances using the word formula: distance = speed x time. The third stage requires students to calculate the distance travelled by finding the area under a line graph (of speed against time, with mixed units). The fourth stage is a series of mental arithmetic problems using all four basic operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
